This article will explain what the Quantity field does in Shopify and how it relates to BookThatApp.
As of 2021, we recommend using widgets over the classic forms. Besides requiring no coding changes and having a more modern look that flows better with the theme, the widgets have more settings and greater app performance in comparison to the classic forms.
If you are using a widget you can enable or disable the quantity selector within the widget's settings which can be found by accessing your existing widget in the Widgets section of the app.
The following info pertains to the classic booking forms.
Traditionally the Quantity field on your Shopify product page serves as the number of units to be sold.
Note: If your Quantity field is not visible you can check within your Theme Editor's settings, or view this article from Shopify on how to enable it.
How To Use The Quantity Field with BTA
With BTA installed the Quantity field can represent either the number of units or the number of days a product will be rented for. Depending on your booking scenario you may also need to track the number of units and the number of days. Refer to the following sections to see which scenario applies to you.
Booking Scenario 1: Renting a product where the customer can select from predefined rental periods (e.g. 4 Days/8 Days) and choose the number of units.
By following the instructions found here you will be able to achieve the following:
- Setup a rental product within the app
- Allow the customer to select a rental duration and the start date
- Use the Quantity field to represent the number of units being rented
Booking Scenario 2: Renting a product where the customer can choose a To and From date. By following these instructions you will be able to:
- Setup a rental product within the app
- Allow the customer to select a rental start and end date
Under this scenario, the Quantity field can be used to capture the number of days the product is being rented for. We recommend hiding the quantity field in this case (so that the customer doesn't change it themselves).
Alternatively, it can be used to capture the number of units, depending on the product page setting 'Date range updates quantity?'.
Booking Scenario 3: Renting a product where you want to allow the customer to choose the date range and the number of units that they would like to rent, or for accommodation bookings where you want to allow the customer to choose the number of guests.
- First set up your product with these instructions.
- Since the quantity is being used in conjunction with variants to calculate the price an additional field needs to be added to the booking form and the quantity field should be hidden.
- Follow the instructions in this gist to set this up: https://gist.github.com/gterrill/616576fa3b78ba602342f235dea767ee
