Ok, I understand creating a new Link List.  But how does that link list get placed into the navigation bar?  I've created the link list I want to use as a drop down, but how does it get placed where I want it?  Unless I'm missing something, you can't embed a link list inside another link list.

It depends on the name. So if you created a new link list - for example 'Catalog' - there would have to be a main menu item called Catalog for it to show up.

Ok, I think I've got it.

    Hi,

I recently purchased the Vanity theme and am having trouble adding sub-nav with the given instructions.  I was able to create one sub-navigation item with the above instructions.  I then repeated the following steps, but only the first one created is showing up.

I am creating new link lists, all with the name Products.  The link lists themselves point to smart collections for each product type.  Again, only the first one I have created is showing as a sub-nav drop down.

    Please advise.

    Regards,

    Dan

    Guys,

My bad, I thought from the instructions one has to create a new LinkList for each sub-nav item.  Ugg.. that was simple.  It's all good now.

    Hi Viona,

It should work in any language. Can you add me to your store temporarily as a staff member so can take a look at it for you?

    Thanks, Gavin.

    Hi Gavin,

    the shopify store:   http://gotthreads.myshopify.com

I've added support@shopifyconcierge.com a staff member.  it looks like

menu in english, sub menu in english --> GOOD!

menu in english, sub menu in chinese --> GOOD!

menu in chinese, sub menu in chinese or english  -->  NO drop down sub menu

I want both men and sub menu in chinese though.

    Thanks, Viona

    Hi Viona,

You were right. There was a bug in how it was finding sub-menus for link lists with titles that are not [a-z,0-9]. I've fixed this on your store, and updated the theme.

    Thanks, Gavin.

hi gavin, is it possible to add sub-menus within sub-menus, something like if I have a menu-tab called wines, I want to have the dropdown menus red-wines, white-wines, ok, and when you hover red-wines, I want to have french, italians, australian etc...

    thanks for answering,

    cheers,

    Hi Phillippe,

I think you may be able to do this using tags for the 3rd level.

You would have Wines at the top level, with submenus for red/white etc. Then for each wine collection use the collection.sidebar layout so that it displays the tags within each collection in the sidebar.

Hopefully that will work for you.

    Thanks, Gavin.

    Hello,

I followed the direction listed above but I am still not able to see the sub-menu. I went to Admin>Navigation> "add link list" nothing showed up instead I received this message "When you create a new link list, it will not show up automatically unless the theme you are using includes it.

To get this link list to show up on your shop's pages you will need to modify your templates in the  Template Editor section."

    Please Advise.

    Thank you!

    Hi Henin,

The Main Menu link-list should already exist (you can not delete it actually). Add a new link to that link-list, then create a new link-list with the name of the link you just created.

    Thanks, Gavin.

    Hi Erin,

This tutorial may help: http://wiki.shopify.com/Implementing_a_smart_drop_down_menu_system (See "Using a naming convention to create sub-menus").

My current menu can support a lot of links (with subsequent sub-menus), as it is a fly-out vertical menu. With limited space in a horizontal menu, how many can you actually place before it overwhelms the navigation bar?

    Hi Maggie,

That will depend on what the menu items are, but if you are running out of space, you can adjust the font-size and padding between items.

    Hey Gavin

I'm trying to install SUB SUB MENUS, but I'm not sure how.

When I add a link list it shows up in the main menu instead of an option in the sub menu.

    Thanks

Hello! I would like to create a submenu starting from a link at the top right of the page (the equivalent of the about us / contact / view cart links)

Since they are manually built in and already in a li list, whenever I try to create a submenu, it mis-aligns everything. Is there any code I can use to create a submenu for this menu?

    Thank you!

    Hi mcat,

You can only add sub-menus to the main menu - not the "eyebrow" menu on the top right. To make the eyebrow menu work the same way you would need to customize the theme - take a look at  http://users.tpg.com.au/j_birch/plugins/superfish/ - which is the menu system Vanity is already using.

    Thanks, Gavin.

    Hi Gavin,

    Hi Gavin,

Sorry, I still don't get it (making a submenu).  Say you create a new link list called "Category".  Then you go to Main Menu and add a link there.  Name of the new link is "Category".  But how do you set "Links to" part?

  • Avatar
    Zetya Support

    Hi Yumiko,

Set the "Links to" part to the collection/product/blog/page etc you want the menu item to go. At the Category level, you probably want it to go to a general collection (e.g. a smart collection with price > 0, or simply the '/collections/all' default page Shopify gives you).

    Thanks, Gavin.

    Hi Gavin,

Thank you so much for your quick response.  Actually, mine is "Jewelry".  Do I select "Web Address"?  How do I find the address?

  • Avatar

P.S.  "Jewelry" is the name of my new link list.

    Hi Yumiko,

Unfortunately the Shopify documentation is a bit lacking in this department: http://wiki.shopify.com/Help:Navigation

I'd encourage you to try out the different types of links and see how they work.

    Thanks, Gavin.

Hello! I am a bit worried because from the computer I am using it seems my sub-menus have stopped showing and working. My lists are still there and I did not change anything in my template except for adding the hours in the "Contact Us" section of the footer. What is going on and what should I do?
