    Hi Daniel,

Yes, it is possible to hand-pick the related products.

Vanity looks for a collection with the same name as the product, but with " Related" at the end - e.g. for the Classic Oval product it is pulling the products from the "Classic Oval Related" collection.

If it doesn't find a related collection, it will display other products from the same collection.

    Thanks, Gavin.

Thanks.  Would one have to create a custom or smart collection for each product one wanted to handpick related products for?

Either one will work, as long as the name (technically, the "handle") matches.

is an exact match required?   for example if i had a product "320GB hard drive for macbook" and i wanted to show related products could i do so with a custom collection called "hard drive macbook?"

    thank you.

Yes, it needs to match exactly. It sounds like In this case you'd probably be better off putting the product in the "Hard Drive MacBook" collection and letting it show the other products in the collection..

    Related question on related products.....

I have added products to the drop down menus on my site and the link for them does directly to the product page.  The top level menu item corresponds to the collections I have created.  When I select an individual product from the drop down menu, it takes me to the product page but the related products section is not there.  If I select the collection from the menu and then select a product from the collection page, the related products show up on the product page.

I'd like the related products to show up on the products page regardless of the entry method to the product page.  I have a work-around to enter the web address of the page that is access by navigating to the collection and then to the product, but I was wondering if there was a more elegant or preferrered way to accomplish this.

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Hi Joe,

The trick is to make sure you are using the url for the product that contains the collection. For example, your Hair menu has 2 items:

    1. http://b3products.myshopify.com/collections/hair-products/products/perk-it-up
    2. http://b3products.myshopify.com/products/copy-of-perk-it-up

The first one will show a related collection on the product page but the second won't.

Everything was working fine but I've noticed recently that my related product section stopped working as it used to.  I'm not sure when it started but each time I click on one of the related products, I get an error message that it can't find the image for the product.  The url that it is trying to look for for is valid and the product exists - if I put the url directly into the browsers address bar, it finds the page just fine.  I'm also getting also getting an "Cannot find image undefined" error when I click on the left/right scroll buttons for the related products.  I've screwed something up but I just can't figure out what it is.

    Thanks (again),

    Hi Joe,

I'm getting a shop not found. Can you please raise a ticket and give me the url of a product and I'll take a look: http://support.shopifyconcierge.com/tickets/new.

    Thanks, Gavin.

Gavin - I'm sorry.  My new year's resolution will be to stop being and idiot.

    My actual store is:

    coffeestuff.myshopify.com

    or

    www.b3products.com

I'm sure the problem is with something I've done and not with the theme but I'll open a ticket.

    Thanks,

    Joe
