We have recently rolled out an upgrade to the sync task offered by Product Assistant called Bundles. The following article will explain the difference between the two and how to set up a bundle.
Sync tasks and bundles can both support syncing inventory between products.
The sync task runs on orders received. So for example, if you receive an order for a bundle then the app will automatically decrement inventory for the individual SKUs that make up the bundle.
Sync Tasks were the original feature of the app and allow you to look up bundles and their components. However, if you have a lot of products and variants this can be tedious so we created Bundles to speed up the process.
Bundles perform the same task but you have a choice as to how to set them up.
First you need to create a product in Shopify to represent your bundle. When you create this product, under the Inventory section, there is an option for Inventory Policy. Select the option that states Don't track inventory.
You will also need to have products created that represent the individual components. For the component products you will select the option for Shopify to track the inventory.
1) SKU List
The SKU list allows you to enter a manual list of SKUs to be decremented when a bundle is sold.
For example if you sell Bundle 123, you may enter SKUs, 1, 2 & 3. Any variants with those SKUs will be updated.
2) Product options
Product options are good for when you have variants. ie. Size or Colour. Any of the matching components (ie. Size and Colour) will get updated.
For example, if the bundle is Bundle Shirt/Hat that comes in sizes S, M, and L.
For product options you would set up your options to match the variant.
Bundle Option Component Product Component Option
Size Shirt Size
Size Hat Size
This means that for whatever size is sold in the bundle, the equivalent size will be updated in the component products.
ie. If you sell a small bundle, it will decrement a small hat and a small shirt.
3) Link Individually
The last option, Link Individually, is the same as the Task function where you link them individually by selecting your bundles and components.
