This brief article will provide some detail on how the reminder files work. BTA has the option of including a calendar reminder file on the emails that it sends.
What is a calendar reminder file?
A calendar reminder file is a file that your email can open to add an event to an external calendar such as Google or Outlook . This is a great way to help your customer remember about their upcoming event.
How to enable/disable the reminder file?
In the app you will want to access the Notifications menu item and choose the notification you want to modify. You will see the following option allowing you to select or deselect the .ics file.
Why is my customer seeing a different time than I have scheduled in the app?
When you schedule a product in the app the timezone is based on the timezone that you have specified in your Shopify admin. You can find your timezone setting by navigating to the Shopify admin -> Settings -> Store details -> Standards and formats section.
If the timezone that you specify in Shopify is different from the timezone that your customer is in, the reminder file will adjust the time so that it is localized for your customer.
Here is an example scenario to illustrate this situation a bit more.
Jan books business consulting services in her Shopify store. She is located on the east coast of the US, but services customers throughout the country. Tom makes a booking with Jan for March 15th at 2pm. Tom lives on the west coast of the US so he is 3 hours behind Jan.
Tom receives his booking confirmation email that originates from the app. When he opens it in his Gmail it states that the booking is for March 15th at 11am. This is correct because 11am west coast time is the equivalent of 2pm east coast time.
Can I customize the reminder file?
Yes. In the app you will want to access Templates found under the Settings category. Then select the iCal template.
